Gwynnies Hair

Ok, I know some people think she is a bit smug with all of her 'advice' on Goop, but I like her. Well, actually I like her hair! This textured, wavy bob is my next hair desire. I reckon it looks good rough and tousled or sleek and smooth...you like?

Hey Blondie

Yes, I'm a brunette, but I've always had a thing for blondes! I imagine it is, in truth, more fun to be a blonde - in a hair sense anyway because you can endlessly tweak it. And tweak it. And tweak it... (my one tone black leaves a lot less room for change). I love the idea that you can change your tone seasonally or be more trend focussed and adapt yourself according to what struts down the runways.

Fun it may be, but of course you have to be able to get it right. A hair colour disaster is not at all desirable. I have a dear friend who loves to experiment with home colours and she has had lots of hits but definitely a few misses so what's important when it comes to choosing a home colour for blondes? (or indeed a salon one)

Well, I think you must look at your skin tone first. If you choose the wrong shade you will see that it doesn't make the most of your natural tone. It must complement or go! I love cool, ashy blondes for a high fashion look. It can be played up to great effect with dark smoky eyes or nude eyes and a blood red lip...but it works best on a slightly more sallow skin I think. Conversely, those paler skin tones can rock the ice queen look and go for platinum shades like the one above.

The most popular tones are the warmer, honey, gold tones as they look pretty and beachy and they are ultimately more wearable. They don't make a strong statement, they just work! I love the look of multi-tone hair which is harder to achieve yourself but if you feel creative and capable, you can get busy with some different shades and do a DIY Ombre effect with a darker blonde at the roots and paler tips. Go easy though... disasters are always lurking in the wings!

So here's to all the blondes, be they warm toned honeys, cool Nordic ice queens or platinum princesses.
Have fun with your hair, this brunette is slightly envious!
Have a look at this video from Garnier...it's a good roadmap on how to choose what products can help you find your best blonde.

Good Buns

Due to my inability to get to a hairdresser of late my bob has become much longer and is more often than not thrown up on top of my head for ease, so I'm contemplating letting it get longer still so I can really rock a bun (and even cutting in a sideways fringe for a change).  Here are some inspirational buns I'm loving!

Love the softness of this one...

The messiness of this one...

The fun of this one!

And this is my fave...see what I mean about the fringe? And with the glasses, it could be me, right!

On The Fringe

Every year, and I mean every year, for some reason I become a little obsessed with fringes (or bangs for my US friends!) The thing is that I inevitably get one cut in, like it for about two weeks and then lose my mind with trying to keep it looking good. Mine tends to go a little wonky as I have a slight kink in that portion of my hair. So while I was working on a beautiful 1930's themed nautical wedding shoot the other day, the very talented hair dresser told me the trick to keeping a fringe looking ok... Simply blow dry it in the opposite direction that you want it to sit and then let it fall.... It will magically correct itself and look perfect!

You may know that, but it was news to me! So, now the fringe obsession is hotting up for another year...what to do? what to do?

I'll share the pics when they are released...

Goldilocks

Yes, it's purely a fashion thing. But it's a lovely thing...

Gold leaf paint at the Topshop show...

Lovely with a knot. It takes hair accessories to a whole new level...would you dare?

Hair Crush

It's no secret that Olivia Palermo is my style crush and makeup crush but right now she is particularly My Hair Crush! This is my new plan for my hair seeing as my bob has gotten a little longer...Just have to figure out how to do these low loose curls. I'm thinking there must be a tongs of some sort to make it easier....any ideas my lovelies?

Now That's Good Hair

What a mane! Hasn't she got beautiful hair? Very Gisele-like...long, lustrous and lovely.
I'm kinda missing my longer hair at the moment, I love my bob but I miss the length sometimes and want to  throw it all back in a messy bun...

Just Good Hair

I love the soft old-fashioned look to this style. You never see ribbons in adults hair! Why not?

Just a gorgeous knot...

I have a real thing for 60's tousled styles...so sexy.

I like these low key plaits in either Mary Kate or Ashley's hair...can never tell those Olsen twins apart!

An undone bun...Heaven in a hairdo!

Heads Up

How pretty and quirky are these head pieces by Bando! Now, I know that satin hair bows are a bit 'Sarah Ferguson' for us who remember their arrival in the 80's but for some reason I think they are cute now!

Pretty band...

I admit that it could be the gorgeous pink lipstick and minimal eye makeup that's catching my eye (my preferred look for the Spring!) but the bow is cute and the messy bun is divine!

Beautiful Buns

I spotted this gorgeous bun tutorial over at one of my favourite ever blogs by the wonderful New York based writer Joanna Goddard and simply had to share it with you. I'm such a fan of undone, messy buns...

...and those who know me can vouch for the fact that a Breton striped top and red lipstick is one of my personal key looks. I dare say it's my 'signature' look, if I can be so naff!

Here's the tutorial shots, simply divide day old hair into three sections at the nape of the neck. Twist each one around into a circle and secure with clips, leaving some of the ends out to create the messy, nonchalant finish.

Isn't it pretty! Go forth and tie yourself in knots my friends!

(thanks to Joanna and apologies for ripping off her post)

Jen & Bob

Why are we so fascinated by this woman's hair? I'm not entirely sure, but I admit to joining the 'oohs' when I saw Jennifer Aniston's new bob that she revealed yesterday in Madrid.
As a lot of you may know, I am a fan of the bob! I just love a sleek one and also love a messy one, so I think Jen looks just great....

A Crush On Bob

I just love this shot. This is what my bob wants to look like when it grows up!
